Description
The three crosses at Calvary, where Jesus was crucified according to Christian tradition, represented different individuals and fates. The central cross bore Jesus, recognized as the Cross of Redemption, where he died for the sins of humanity. Flanking him were two thieves, traditionally named Dismas and Gestas. Dismas, the penitent thief, was crucified to Jesus' right and is said to have asked Jesus to remember him in his kingdom, while Gestas, to the left, mocked Jesus. Their crosses are known as the Cross of Repentance and the Cross of Rebellion, respectively.
